How much does a resin driveway cost?

15 Dec 2023 | Resin Bound Stone

The cost of laying a resin bound driveway, path or patio varies depending on certain factors, including the size and shape of the area, your chosen finish, and the groundworks required for the project. And if you want additional design features such as imprinted patterns, this will also add to the overall cost.

If the groundworks are already done

If you already have a suitably prepared site, for example if you are a developer with an experienced groundworks team, it will cost in the region of £50 to £85 per m2 to apply the top layer of resin and aggregate. However for most residential projects, it is unlikely the site will have the necessary level of preparation for us to complete just the top coat.

If we need to do groundworks

As a ballpark for homeowners with an unprepared site, a resin bound driveway costs from £130 per m2 for larger less complex driveways, and can cost up to £250 per m2 for smaller more intricate shapes and areas such as resin patios and pathways. This price includes the cost of all materials and labour, and the price range directly reflects the amount of groundwork preparation, your chosen finish, and certain economies of scale.

What factors affect the cost of a resin driveway?

With regards to economies of scale, larger areas generally come in at a lower price per m2 than smaller driveways and projects such as pathways and patios due to bulk savings on materials and the nature of the installation. There’s a time-motion element which makes resin driveway installations more time efficient over larger areas: a 240m2 drive does not take 4 times longer than a 60m2 drive. So where an average sized driveway of 60m2 takes around 5 working days, a 240m2 driveway normally takes around 12 to 15 working days, resulting in a lower labour cost per m2.

There is not a huge variation in the price of the aggregate you choose, although some aggregates are more expensive than others. So if it’s a very large area, this may be a consideration for you. But because the differences aren’t massive within the wider scope of the investment, we really recommend you go for the aggregate you like and best suits your property. You want to be truly happy with your driveway for years to come!

One element of the materials that can result in a more significant price difference, especially over large areas, is the edge constraint. For example, natural stone cobbles cost more than concrete bricks. Our customers tend to choose us specifically for our high end finish and creative designs, and often ask us to incorporate natural and/or reclaimed stone which can come at a premium. But if you are looking to make savings somewhere, this is where it is, and we can talk you through the different options. Regardless of the finish you choose for your project, our design creativity and product knowledge will ensure a beautiful, practical and long lasting resin driveway you can be proud of.
